It started with a kidney stone, which finally sealed a diagnosis for symptoms that were found previously. My father doesn’t have the freedom to take off work to take my mother to her numerous appointments. So as an only child, I became responsible for taking her to her appointments and listening to the doctors explain the results of her tests and follow-up care instructions. I take notes and keep track of information and future appointments. I sit with her in waiting rooms helping her fill out form after form, helping her remember all her medical history (which I have now created a standard form to give to each doctor/hospital).
I am currently a business student at Western Governors University, but I have now realized exactly how I may use my unique skill set to help others, when they or their family needs an extra person to help out. I want to strive to create a trusting relationship with each client so they feel comfortable, like they are with a friend of the family.
